Happy St. Patrick's Day. I have been here 3 weeks now. I started Turkish classes about two weeks ago. Ordered a couch one week ago & found the new "local pub" yesterday, so not a bad start. A few people asked me to share some of the food that I have found in Turkey, so I here's are some pics I just took of a few I found. The first is keçi boynuzu (which translates to goats horn), actually, I am cheating. I knew of carob for a long time, I always used carob chips in banana bread in US, but have only seen it in its original form here. Apparently, it is made into a drink during Ramadan and it has been known as an aphrodisiac- but what isn’t? I just chew the whole thing and spit out the seeds. I am not sure if you are supposed to, but I am still alive. The other discovery is iğde. I found this dried fruit at a sundry bazaar. It doesn’t have a whole lot of nutritional value, but it is sweet and has a fluffy, like cotton candy texture. You peel the red skin off, eat the white part and discard the seed.
